Founded in 2000, by Joseph P. Marino and Jonathan Fortin, AKA Link was a hosting company based in New York and Montreal that provided domain registration, colocation, dedicated servers, managed servers, web hosting and web design services.
AKA Link also built an innovative e-mail web application called AKA Mail. AKA Mail was built with security in mind for small to medium-sized business customers. AKA Mail was one of the first webmail applications to implement functionality that was important to business users, such as UI white labeling, sending e-mail from their own domain name (ie @mybusiness.com), invisible read receipts, and support for S/MIME certificates so that users could sign and encrypt e-mails. AKA Mail launched in 2003, 1 year before Google launched Gmail.
